Gyokuro Green Tea - Sedona Arizona's Full-Leaf Tea Store
This GREEN TEA is the finest first harvest (later spring) Japanese loose leaf tea, and specifically grown in Fukuoka, in the most southwestern portion of Japan. Gyokuro leaves are shaded in the tea garden at least three weeks prior to harvest, in the same way as MatCha, since shading allows the tea to retain a high L-Theanine content. This is a laborious and expensive process for the farmer. The high L-Theanine results in Gyokuro’s (and therefore MatCha’s) unique natural sweetness. Post-harvest processing of Gyokuro is identical to SenCha, using steam. The resulting tea has a deep green color, translucent emerald-like liquor, and rich flavor. The characteristic flavor of Gyokuro is a pronounced umami (think seaweed, sushi, that desirable taste of Japanese culture), nearly no astringency, highlighted with those sweet overtones. Infusion produces a light green color and a deep, and complex flavor.
MODERATELY CAFFEINATED (approx 30% of the caffeine as coffee)
AVAILABLE AS: 2 OZ Package, 1 OZ TastingSample
Package size is 2 ounces of full leaf tea, which yields approximately 25 first cups. Tasting sample is 1 ounce for about 10-12 cups.
BREWING: 1 level teaspoon (about 3 grams or 1/10 oz) for every 8 oz of 140°F fresh water. Steep for 2-3 minutes or more to desired taste. A second and third infusion or more is possible by increasing steep time one minute each time. Japanese tea is especially enjoyed as a “true cold-brew", by brewing for a least 10-15 minutes with melting ice.
